As a Port and Shopping Guide, youÕll present live Shopping Talks and Product Seminars that entertain and educate cruise ship guests to get the most value ashore for their shopping dollar.
Most of the products promoted are luxury goods: gemstones, fine jewelry, Swiss watches, crystal, electronics etc.
During the port calls, the PSG meets with representatives from the contracted stores to monitor the effectiveness of their promotion and discuss strategies for future promotions.
- Live Shopping Presentation
- Before an audience of hundreds of people
- Approximately 45 minutes in length
- Also shown on in-cabin TV
- Usually 2 to 3 per week
- The style is both persuasive and informative
- Seminars
- Focused on specific product groups i.e. Gemstones, watches
- Given to smaller groups of 50-100 people
- 1 to 3 per week
- Desk Hours
- Answer passenger questions about the ports, including shopping information
- Usually 1 hour per day
- Gangway
- Answer passenger questions about the ports, including shopping information
- Usually 1 to 2 hours per port day.
- Socializing
- Appearing at key events around the ship to promote the Shopping Program at a one-on-one level.
- Meetings Ashore
- Purposes; Build & maintain a productive relationship between the PSG & the store.
- Discuss sales results and collaborate on future promotions.
- The number of stores in each port varies from as few as one to as many as thirty.
- During this time, the PSG often provides advice to the cruise ship guests as they make their purchases in the stores

Cruise Lines
Many of the finest cruise lines rely on Onboard Media to develop and maintain extensive integrated shopping programs onboard their worldwide fleets. Through in-cabin television programming, custom publications and dynamic live lecturers, the cruise guest receives a powerful message about where to shop in the ports of call. This multi-media approach also seeks to entertain while providing valuable information and reinforcing the cruise line marketing message.

400+ retail clients throughout the world's various ports of call. Markets include:
- Alaska
- Bermuda
- Bahamas
- Caribbean
- Europe
- Hawaii
- Panama Canal
- New England

Self-Motivated
NOT a 9 to 5, time card job
40+ hours per week (usually involves working during the days and the evenings)
There are no weekends off. (Intensive 6-month contracts with a 4 - 6 week vacation)
Well Spoken
Presentations require an enthusiastic, persuasive style
Essential attribute - impeccable speech and confidence
Well Presented
High profile position; must be polished and professional at all times; to the public and merchants
Personable
Per week = Meet 75 store representatives, as many as 2,000 guests, 500 - 1,000 crew.

Latitude is given to design exciting, innovative and effective promotions onboard.
Organized
Excellent organizational skills are required to manage the position

PSGs are assigned their own cabin (DO NOT share with other crew)
Generally, the same privileges and regulations are extended as Staff Members (2 stripe officers)

PSG operates as an independent contractor
Ship Assignments = 6 month intensive work following a 4 - 6 week vacation

Standard training includes: 4 full days of theoretical training following a 7-day overlap on a vessel
PSG is responsible to pay for airfare to the OBM (Miami, FL) and meals
Onboard Media will cover hotel (room & tax) and a $35 daily per diem

- Current Physical
- Wardrobe of basic business attire and formal wear (tuxedo for men).
- $1,000 cash available - cover incidental expenses during the first 5 weeks of employment.
- Valid Passport (Including C1/D Seaman's Visa for Non-U.S. citizens)
- Cruise Line Employees or Concessionaires - Obtain consent from your company before leaving the position
